On 21 October 2022 a workshop was held as the final milestone of my ARC DP project, Preventing Gender Violence: Lessons from the Global South at the Moreton Bay Campus of the University of the Sunshine Coast.
The workshop bought together voices of survivors, experts, domestic and sexual violence leaders and Qld police with a common interest in improving integrated responses to Domestic and Sexual Violence. The timing is important as Qld leaps into the unknown territory of criminalising coercive control, in the wake of the report of the Commission of Inquiry into QLD police response to DFV, handed to the Minister this week 14 November.
An impressive array of speakers from United Nations Women, Women’s Legal Centre Qld, Red Rose Foundation, Sexual Assault Service Qld, QPS DFV Command, DVAC, Peggys Place and experts from the University of the Sunshine Coast spoke at the workshop.
